Pensions Ombudsman Focus Autumn 2020 edition

Welcome to the Pensions Ombudsman Focus for the Autumn 2020 period. In this edition, we look at five recent complaints to the Pensions Ombudsman, including decisions that demonstrate:

  • The importance of keeping a record of any transfers in and out of a scheme, to ensure benefits can be calculated accurately.
  • That the Ombudsman may reach conclusions based on the most likely balance of probabilities in the absence of clear evidence.
  • That the Ombudsman may increase awards for distress and inconvenience if the Respondent fails to engage with the Applicant and the Ombudsman’s office.

If you would like to discuss any of the points raised in these determinations, or any other contentious issues you may have, please contact our Pensions Dispute Resolution Group.
