Jean-Pierre is widely acknowledged as one of Belgium’s leading corporate lawyers. He has huge experience in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate restructuring, as well as public takeovers, equity offerings and private equity.
Jean-Pierre heads the firm’s company law and M&A practice group in Belgium, as well as being co-head of the firm’s global M&A practice.
Previously, Jean-Pierre was the firm’s regional managing partner for Europe, was a member of the firm’s international board, was a member of the firm’s executive committee, and was national managing partner for Linklaters in Belgium.
Jean-Pierre has led on many of the market’s high-profile M&A, corporate and equity capital markets deals.
These include advising on the sale of the Antwerp Port Container business to the Singapore Port Authority, the IPO of Belgacom, the merger of Almanij and KBC, the sale of Unilin, the partial privatisation of the Belgian Post, the public takeover bids on Remi Claeys Aluminium, DocPharma, Arinso and Brantano, and the federal and regional governmental capital injections into KBC as a consequence of the financial crisis of 2008.
More recent transactions led by Jean-Pierre include the public to private transaction of Omega Pharma, the sale of Gryson to Japan Tobacco, the acquisition of Spano and IVC by Unilin (Mohawk Industries), the IPO of bPost (the Belgian Post Group), the sale of Napoleon Games and the IPO of XFab, the merger between Immobel and ALLFIN, and the sale by Agfa Gevaert of its IT healthcare division.
Jean-Pierre has held several board positions. Currently, these include:

- Director, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra
- Co-Chairman PULSE Foundation, which supports young entrepreneurs in Belgium
- Member, Board of Trustees, Belgian Governance Institute GUBERNA
Jean-Pierre is also a member of the expert group on the future of the Belgian financial sector, appointed by the Belgian minister of finance as from June 2015.
Since 1986, Jean-Pierre has been a lecturer at the University of Antwerp in comparative law, and he regularly lectures at the Antwerp University School of Management on M&A and public takeovers. He has also been a visiting lecturer at the University of Leuven where he taught a course on cross-border public takeovers.
He has published a series of articles on selected topics relating to company law, mergers and acquisitions, as well as financial law, including writing a regular column for TRENDS, the main business weekly in Belgium. He is a member of various editorial boards.
Jean-Pierre studied law at the University of Antwerp and holds a master’s in law from Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge.
He speaks English, French, Dutch and German.
