Education and qualifications
Joana Freire Almeida is an Associate in the Mainstream Corporate department in the Lisbon office. Her professional experience has focused from the outset on Corporate Law, both in terms of corporate restructuring & transactions. Currently Joana focuses her practice on M&A advisory and transactional work.
She advises domestic and foreign corporate clients, across several market sectors, including the energy, food, services, real estate, education and the infrastructure sector, on national and cross-border issues, coordinating with other Linklaters teams.
She furthermore has relevant experience in Corporate Finance & Capital Markets matters, such as project financing and M&A financing.
Joana joined the Lisbon office of Linklaters in 2018 and is an Associate in its Mainstream Corporate Department.
While at university, Joana started her legal career attending two summer internships, first at Macedo Vitorino & Associados and later at Garrigues Portugal, both law firms in Lisbon.
Joana then did her traineeship at the law firm MLGTS (2010 – 2013), and then worked for PLMJ as an Associate (2014 – 2018).
During this time Joana gained relevant experience in advisory and transactional Corporate Law work, and also housekeeping work, gaining insights regarding the key issues that arise in the client’s business activity.
In addition to her legal working experience Joana also gained valuable experience working as a volunteer for charitable causes, both locally in Lisbon, and internationally, in Cambodia.
Education and qualifications
Joana obtained her Law Degree from the Law School of the University of Lisbon in 2009. In 2010, Joana completed the LL.M. “Law in a European and Global Context” of the Catholic University of Lisbon (Global School of Law) and then obtained her Master Degree in the same program (2012).
Joana furthermore attended the University Extension Course in Arbitration at the Law School of the
Nova University of Lisbon (2013). She then completed a Post-graduation course in Corporate
Finance at the Law School of the University of Lisbon (2015).
Joana further obtained the LL.M “International Business Law” from the Law School of the Catholic University of Lisbon (Global School of Law) (2017).
She is a Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2013.
Joana speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.
