Overview

João Bento is an Associate in the Lisbon Finance department. His recent practice has focused on transactional work on financing transactions, NPL deals, securitisation, distressed assets, issue and placement of debt securities, corporate restructuring, liability management, compliance and regulatory matters.

He advises domestic and international clients, such as banks, investment funds, SPVs and private equity clients that operate in financial markets on their national and cross-border issues.

Professional Experience

João joined the Lisbon office of Linklaters in 2015 as Associate, where he works at the Finance Department.

João started his career as a trainee in 2008 at local law firm Vieira de Almeida, where he then worked between until 2013, working in Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, M&A, and Corporate Finance. During this time João did a client secondment at Citibank (2009-2010), followed by another client secondment at BANIF Investment Bank (2010-2011), gaining insider insights into the banking and financial sector.

João then worked as Advisor to the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Ministry of Economy between 2013 and 2015, providing advice and assistance in a wide range of matters.

Education and qualifications

João holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon (2008). During these studies he did an Erasmus at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain (2007). He also did a Post-Graduation Course in Securities Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2010).

He is a Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2012.

João speaks Portuguese and English.
