Education and qualifications
José João Valadas Henriques is an Associate at the Employment group in the Corporate department of Linklaters Lisbon.
José João advises human resources departments of Portuguese and international corporate clients on the complete spectrum of employment and social security matters, regarding their day-to-bay businesses, including advice on company restructuring processes such as redundancy procedures, collective dismissals, collective negotiations, strikes, employee incentive plans, as well as disciplinary proceedings and litigation, in several market sectors, including the banking, insurance, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, professional services and consultancy, transport and aviation sectors.
José João started his legal career in 2013 as trainee-lawyer at the law firm Capitão, Rodrigues Bastos, Areia & Associados, working in Litigation and Public Law. He then joined Rebelo de Sousa & Associados as trainee-lawyer in 2014, where he specialised in Employment Law and became a fully qualified lawyer (2016). In 2019 José João joined the Linklaters Lisbon office, where he works as Associate at the Employment group in the Corporate department.
Before graduating from university, José João did an internship at the Julgados de Paz in Lisbon and volunteered at the organisation Vida e Paz, a non-profit Catholic organisation that aims to help the homeless, providing assistance at their Christmas ceremony.
José João is a member of APODIT (Associação Portuguesa de Direito do Trabalho), the Portuguese Labour Law Association, AJJ (Associação de Jovens Juslaboralistas), the Portuguese association for young labour law specialists, and of CIELO (Comunidad para la investigación y el estudio laboral y ocupacional), the International Community for labour and occupational research and study.
Education and qualifications
José João holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2012). He then invested in further training by doing courses on Corporate Governance, International and European Employment Law, Civil Lability of Public Entities and Social Rights.
In 2017 José João obtained his Master´s Degree in Legal/Labour Sciences of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
He is a Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2013.
José João speaks Portuguese and English.
José João published an article on the topic of the temporal scope of collective labour agreements, “Do âmbito temporal das convenções colectivas de trabalho. Da sobrevigência em especial”, Estudos do Instituto do Direito do Trabalho, Volume VII, Almedina, 2015.
He furthermore published articles in the employment specialised press (such as RH Magazine and Revista Pessoal) on matters such as outsourcing and other employment related matters.
