Specialised experience in restructuring and insolvency law as well as banking and capital markets law.

Work highlights:

Transactions of significance where substantial involvement can be disclosed have included:

  • KfW: advising on a Covid-19 related DIP-financing in the amount of up to €550m provided to Condor in the form of a state aid measure backed by the Federal Republic of Germany.
  • KKR Credit Advisors: advising on the sale of Tekfor Group, a German automotive supplier, to American Axle & Manufacturing.
  • Crédit Agricole: advising on the securitisation of the entire Europcar business.
  • Lenders: advising on the restructuring and refinancing of the group of companies owned by Galapagos BidCo.
  • Development bank: advising in connection with interim financing for a German energy group in the three-digit million range to absorb price fluctuations in the energy sector.
  • Global petroleum and energy company: advising on the contractual restructuring of key supply relationships, in particular to minimize the risk of disrupted business relationships due to government sanctions.
  • International logistics company: advising on various insolvencies of customers.
  • Asset management of a chemical group: advising in connection with an airport insolvency, in particular in matters of rental and real estate law.
  • A major international bank: advising on the financial restructuring of an international branded apparel, footwear and brand management company and the enforcement of collateral in the subsequent insolvency.

Professional experience

Michael is a lawyer since 2014 and spent 3 years at an international commercial law firm. He joined Linklaters in 2017 and was appointed Managing Associate in 2018.

Education and qualifications

Michael studied law at the University of East Anglia in England and the Justus-Liebig-University in Gießen, where he later earned his doctorate.

 

He speaks German and English.
