Linklaters Advises Marfrig on $969 Million Acquisition of U.S.-Based National Beef

Acquisition Will Make Marfrig the World’s Second-Largest Beef Producer

Linklaters acted as lead international counsel for Brazil-based Marfrig Global Foods S.A. in the purchase and sale agreement with Leucadia National Corporation and others for the acquisition of 51% of the membership interests in National Beef Packing Company LLC, the fourth-largest beef processor in the United States.
Marfrig has agreed to pay US$ 969 million for the equity interest. Once the transaction is complete, they will become the world’s second-largest beef processor, with annual consolidated sales of US$ 13 billion.
The acquisition agreement was signed on April 9, 2018. The closing of the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
The Linklaters team was led by New York and São Paulo-based Partner Matthew Poulter and Senior Associate Gabriel Silva, as well as New York Corporate Partner Scott Sonnenblick.
