Linklaters sponsors inaugural FT-AIIB Summit in Hong Kong

Linklaters was gold and networking sponsor of the inaugural FT-AIIB Summit held on 1 November at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. The theme of the summit was around “Mobilising infrastructure capital to connect and transform Asia” and it was a very significant event for industry participants (both on the public and private side) to meet and discuss the practical steps being taken to share risk, incentivise and attract private capital to green and brownfield projects.

Amongst the key note speakers were The Honourable Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Finance of Indonesia and Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Over 250 delegates attended, including clients from CLP Holdings, Credit Suisse, Hong Kong Electric, Hutchison Ports, Macquarie, Mitsubishi Corporation, Prudential Corporation, Silk Road Fund and SMBC and sponsors such as PwC, BNP Paribas, DBS, MUFG, EY and China Construction Bank.

Linklaters’ involvement included a panel session, where Global Head of Project Finance Stuart Salt participated in the morning panel on “Breaking Down Barriers to Incentivise Long-Term Private Capital” and discussed amongst other things, the funding gap in Asian infrastructure and the role of Governments and MDBs. Stuart illuminated the panel by telling some war stories of his time advising on the Dabhol power project in India and the Euro Disney in Paris.

Linklaters’ sponsorship of the FT-AIIB Summit supports the firm’s strong involvement in our firm’s China outbound, the Belt and Road and Cross Sector Funds initiatives.
