Senior housing: the situation in Italy

Notes from the conference "I senior e la casa"

In a scenario of continuous lengthening of life expectancy, homes take on an ever greater centrality in the lives of Longennials.

On an international level, "Aging in the right place" is the motto for the well-being of the elderly and the sustainability of ageing countries. In Europe, according to Eurostat data, in 2050 the over 75 population will increase by almost 40 million more than in 2015.

The current Italian legislation is not fully ready for investments in residential properties to rent, nor even for those evolved forms of renting accompanied by services dedicated to tenants, as senior housing typically has.

On June 15th, Francesco Calabria, Managing Associate of the Real Estate practice of Linklaters Italy, participated as a speaker at the conference "I senior e la casa", organised by the Active Longevity Institute (A.L.I.) at Palazzo Castiglioni, in Milan, and entirely dedicated to the theme of Longevity and Living.

We review the highlights of the event and elaborate on this topic in our briefing note below.
