The Centennial of the Federal Arbitration Act
“In International Arbitration We Trust?"
– Challenges and Perspectives in Enforcing International Arbitration Awards
Join us in Amsterdam on Monday 22 September for an event commemorating the centennial of the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA).
A distinguished panel of international arbitration practitioners from around the world will critically examine the FAA’s legacy and its ongoing impact on the global enforcement of arbitral awards. The panel will explore the United States’ approach under the FAA and the New York Convention, the pro-enforcement principles in U.S. federal courts, and the evolving challenges related to asset recovery, sovereign enforcement, the impact of sanctions, and parallel litigation.
The discussion will provide comparative insights into how U.S. enforcement practices and procedures align with or diverge from approaches in other key jurisdictions, including the Netherlands.
Using real-world examples and recent developments, the panelists will discuss whether the U.S. approach continues to bolster trust and efficiency in international arbitration and what adaptations, if any, may be beneficial to the evolving arbitration landscape into the next century.
