Overview

Ben is widely regarded as a leading lawyer for his work on the most complex financial and corporate restructurings. He also advises investment banks and corporate clients on a wide range of banking transactions, including private equity leveraged financing, investment grade lending and real estate financing.

Ben and the other partners in the firm’s Madrid office have developed groundbreaking schemes of arrangement and established leading banking and R&I practices in the Spanish market, acting for both debtors and bank lenders, noteholders or distressed funds.

Ben is also global co-head of the firm’s banking practice, which serves clients the world over on their most challenging, large-scale cross-border financings.

Work highlights:

Ben has led on many market-leading deals. These include advising:

  • Lecta and its main shareholder CVC on the restructuring of Lecta's financial debt and reorganisation of its capital structure
  • Deoleo and the main shareholders on the restructuring of its financial debt and capital structure
  • the banks on the restructuring of the financial debt of DIA
  • Abengoa on its global restructuring and several subsequent refinancings
  • Permira on the LBO of Laureat
  • the lenders on the €1.5bn multicurrency syndicated credit facility to Iberdrola Financiación and Iberdrola

Professional experience

Ben has been based in the firm’s Madrid office since 2004. He has also worked in the firm’s London and Paris offices on cross-border transactions. He was seconded to the leveraged finance equity sponsors group of Credit Suisse First Boston for six months in 2002. 

Education and qualifications

Ben studied medieval history with French at St. Andrew’s University, Scotland and holds a certificate d’études politiques from the Institute d’Études Politiques, Paris.

He speaks English, fluent French and fluent Spanish.
