Trustee Agenda Autumn 2025

Welcome to our Autumn Edition of Trustee Agenda.

The big news since the last edition of Trustee Agenda is, of course, the publication of the eagerly awaited Pension Schemes Bill. Our first article provides an overview of the provisions of the Bill, while our second article dives into the detail of the highly topical surplus provisions. You can read more about the far-reaching changes relating to DC schemes in our sister publication, DC Agenda.

The Government has also published a response to its consultation on bringing most unused pension funds and death benefits payable from a pension into a person’s estate for inheritance tax purposes from 6 April 2027. The response addresses one of the main issues highlighted in our Winter 2024 edition of Trustee Agenda, by confirming that personal representatives, rather than pension schemes, will become liable for the reporting and payment of any IHT on the pension component of an estate. Our third article looks at the response in more detail.

Our final article highlights the important of reviewing data protection compliance documents periodically and sets out some pointers for trustees.

As always, do please let us know if there are any areas which you would like us to explore in future editions of Trustee Agenda.
