Linklaters advises Africa50 on negotiations for EDF’s entry into the company dedicated to the Volobe hydroelectric dam in Madagascar

Linklaters advised Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investment and asset management platform, on negotiations resulting in EDF’s acquisition of a 37.5% stake in La Compagnie Générale d’Hydroélectricité de Volobe (CGHV). CGHV is the project company responsible for developing, constructing, and operating the Volobe hydroelectric dam in Madagascar.

With an estimated investment of over €500 million, the Volobe dam, once operational, is expected to generate 750 GWh of electricity per year, covering approximately one-third of the country’s current power production and contributing significantly to its ecological transition.

The Linklaters team was led by Nicolas Le Guillou, Partner in Corporate/M&A, Justin C. Faye, Partner in Energy and Infrastructure, and supported by Aubry Lémeret, Managing Associate in Corporate/M&A.
