Overview

Carlota is an Associate in the firm’s Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations department in Lisbon. She has been developing her practice in the areas of litigation and arbitration, with special emphasis on corporate litigation and banking & financial litigation, as well as corporate restructuring matters, both within and outside the insolvency scenario. 

Carlota has gained experience advising domestic and international corporate and institutional clients that operate in the financial markets, plastic industry, sports and tourism sectors, assisting them on shareholders disputes, management dismissals, breach of bylaws – shareholders agreements and articles of association, debt & corporate restructuring, breach of duties of financial intermediaries, and insolvency matters.

She is involved in all phases of contentious work, including pre-litigation negotiations, as well as in preventive work, such as due diligence exercises.  
Furthermore, Carlota has experience in Corporate Law and in M&A matters.

Professional experience

Carlota started her legal career in 2014 as a Trainee at the local law firm Gouveia Pereira, Costa Freitas & Associados, integrating its Litigation department. Shen then joined CMS - Rui Pena, Arnaut & Associados, where she worked in Commercial & Corporate Law and Litigation & Arbitration, and where she became an Associate in 2017. She then joined Linklaters in 2021 as an Associate of the Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations department in Lisbon.

In the past, Carlota volunteered at APAV - the Portuguese Victim Support Association), as a Victim Support Assistant.

Education and qualifications

Carlota holds a Law Degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (2012), where she further obtained her Master´s Degree in Law (2014). Carlota then completed an Advanced Postgraduate Course in Commercial Litigation at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2019), and attended the Colloquium on Banking and Financial Law, organised by the Centre for Judiciary Studies (CEJ).

Currently, Carlota is attending the VI Advanced Postgraduate Course in Company Law - Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.

She is a fully qualified Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2017.

Carlota speaks Portuguese and English.
