Linklaters’ Head of Structured Finance Mark Nuttall is a trusted and respected senior market leader, recognised as Band 1 in Chambers. His work over 20 years on high-profile, transformative and complex financings has shaped the infrastructure and utilities market. Mark provides strategic and pragmatic board-level advice whilst remaining hands-on in the transaction detail that always matters; putting client service first.
Mark’s clients have included Cerberus, GIP, Goldman Sachs, Macquarie, Morgan Stanley and as well as infrastructure and utility companies (including Thames Water), banks and financial institutions across the UK and Europe. He has broad experience across business and asset life-cycles from green-field, acquisition, re-structuring (including court-based processes and the latest experience of UK RPs) and transformation to (re-)financing and sale.
Mark advises across the full spectrum of financing and investments, including derivatives, equity and hybrid equity, private placements, public bonds, securitisation, specialty and distressed lending, derivatives, securitisation and whole-business securitisation. He is unique in his experience of complex interrelated problems and ability to advise across the full breadth of asset-life and products combined with his understanding of the impact of regulation and the political environment.

Work highlights
Mark has advised on some of the market’s most complex and pioneering transactions, including among others, advising:
- Thames Water (UK) on its £20bn balance-sheet re-structuring, equity raise and strategic transformation.
- Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, including on the restructuring of Tele-Columbus (Germany), the acquisition, refinancing and sale of Fastfiber (Portugal), refinancing and shareholder financing of VTG (Germany), Hoegh (Norway).
- National Grid (UK) on the £14bn disposal Cadent, including a ground-breaking stapled finance solution.
- Financing of the landmark £5bn Tideway Tunnel (UK) using the innovative “special infrastructure” model - now planned to be used for other high profile infrastructure projects including new Nuclear and strategic reservoirs.
- Restructuring of Punch Taverns (UK).
