Overview

David is a counsel in Linklaters’ Corporate and Structured Lending Group based in London. David has advised across the whole spectrum of asset finance deals, having acted for borrowers, lessors, banks, financial institutions and export credit agencies across a wide range of aviation and equipment finance deals. David has experience advising on structured loans, lease financings, export credit backed financings, securitisations, restructurings and portfolio sales.

David has previously worked in other leading international asset finance practices, including time spent in Munich, and has extensive in-house experience, working for BOC Aviation and for the UK Branch of ABN AMRO Bank. David also has experience of participating in risk and governance roles within financial institutions and being responsible for the drafting and application of policy and processes.

Work Highlights:

  • An aircraft lessor: advising on new leases with a major European flag carrier.
  • China Aircraft Leasing Corporation: advising CALC on the refinancing of and unwind of its innovative aircraft co-investment structure, including senior and junior debt and the acquisition of a seed portfolio of aircraft.
  • UBS: advising UBS on providing a finance lease to an entity secured on a corporate jet.
  • CDBA: advising the lessor on a bilateral loan secured on a pool of commercial aircraft.
  • The lessor: advising on the sale and leaseback of three 777-300ER aircraft to an airline based in the Middle East.
  • The lessor: advising the lessor on the finance and operating leasing of 2 A330 aircraft to a South American airline.
  • The seller: advising on the disposal of 15 aircraft and the transfer of the related leases to a US based lessor, including negotiating the master sale and novation documentation and coordinating a team covering transfers taking place in China, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Canada and the US.
  • A major financial institution: advising on the portfolio financing of 40 aircraft.
  • The buyer: advising on the structuring and operation of multiple equipment and receivable finance facilities.
  • A European airline: assisting on the portfolio sale of six Bombardier Q400 aircraft, together with a transfer of the related financing.
  • The lease manager of an ABS: advising on the re-leasing of multiple aircraft.

Education and qualifications

David studied law at the University of Leeds and qualified as a solicitor in 2013.
