Overview

Liam is a Partner in the Restructuring & Insolvency team based in London with extensive experience of advising on cross-border restructurings, recapitalisations, opportunistic and special situations financings and distressed M&A transactions. Liam regularly advises funds, banks, corporates, financial sponsors and their portfolio companies on a wide range of complex debt structures and across a number of sectors, asset classes and geographies. 

During his career at Linklaters, Liam has spent time in both the Hong Kong and Madrid offices and has spent time with the special situations team of a credit fund in London. He has also recently completed a secondment to a large UK FTSE listed company where he acted as interim Chief General Counsel having advised the group over a 2 year period on a number of complex asset disposals and refinancing options. 

Work highlights

Liam has advised on some of the most significant restructuring mandates in the market, including (to the extent capable of being disclosed) advising:

  • The LYCRA Company: advising an ad hoc group of lenders (and, in turn, as new equity holders) with respect to the enforcement action over The LYCRA Company together with the subsequent refinancing of the revolving credit facility and senior secured notes due 2023.
  • Comdata: advising an ad hoc group of funds and banks in connection with the corporate and financial restructuring of the Italian outsourcing. 
  • Selecta: advising the sponsor parties in relation to the financial restructuring of the Selecta Group.
  • Steinhoff: advising this retail group on their €10bn multi-jurisdictional restructuring. 
  • The ad hoc group of lenders: advising on the €700m financial and corporate restructuring of the German ceramics and metals producer, H.C. Starck.
  • The co-ordinating committee of senior lenders: advising on the financial restructuring of the European Directories group in both 2010 and 2012 (including in connection with the Court of Appeal proceedings in 2010 on the proper interpretation of intercreditor release mechanics on a distressed disposal).
