Linklaters named one of Financial Times’ most innovative law firms

Linklaters has been named one of the world’s most innovative law firms at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Global Summit – recognising standout firms and individuals over the past 20 years of the FT Innovative Lawyer series.

In addition, Sophie Mathur, Corporate Partner, has been ranked among the Top 20 most innovative lawyers from the past two decades – singled out for her work as co-head of Linklaters’ Innovation Group and being at the forefront of exploring potential new technologies and ways of working.

George Casey, Linklaters Global Chairman of Corporate and Chairman of the Americas, also features in the FT’s Innovative Lawyers report both as a practitioner and a law professor at a leading US law school. George discusses the skills needed to future-proof a legal career, Linklaters’ extensive training programmes on generative AI, and his personal experience in teaching law students and training lawyers in new tech.

George explains how understanding large language models work will be an essential requirement for lawyers in the future. This comes as lawyers are increasingly expected to combine legal expertise with business acumen and technological skills, using their judgment on overseeing AI-driven with their soft skills. George has been teaching law students at the University of Pennsylvania, one of the Ivy League law schools, for the last 15 years. The FT notes that this year, George plans to show his students how Open AI’s new ChatGPT o3 model handles complex US securities law analysis, at the forefront of training lawyers in the new tech, driving real-world adoption.

The FT quoted George as saying:

My main message will be that AI pushes lawyers to be better, to be sharper, [but] you need to know the material at the level where you can see AI’s strengths and limitations.
