Lev advises Russian and international companies on all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and restructurings, as well as on general corporate issues. He has specialist expertise in the financial institutions, Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT), industrials and chemicals sectors, as well as in the internet and new technology sectors.

Lev is the firm’s marketing and business development partner in Moscow, as well as heading the firm’s Moscow office community investment committee, leading a range of initiatives to support local charities.

Work Highlights

Lev has led on many major corporate transactions in Russia and the CIS. These include advising:

  • Bank of Cyprus on the disposal of its Russian operations, including a sale of Uniastrum Bank and Uniastrum Leasing, and a long-term servicing agreement in relation to the remaining NPL portfolio, and in connection with funding repayment arrangements in relation to Marfin Bank Serbia
  • Rostelecom, Russia’s leading long-distance telephony provider, on its US$7.4bn joint venture with Tele2 Russia
  • UralChem, a major producer of nitrogen and phosphate fertilisers in Russia and CIS, on the acquisition of a 20% stake in Uralkali, the world’s largest producer of potash fertilisers, and Mr Dmitry Rybolovlev on a prior sale of a 63 per cent stake in Uralkali
  • United Capital Partners, a Russian private equity group, on the acquisition of a 48% stake in the leading Russian social network, VKontakte
  • Sberbank, a major Russian bank, on the US$3.5bn acquisition of Denizbank, one of the largest banks in Turkey, and on the acquisition of Troika Dialog Group, a leading Russian independent investment bank
  • MegaFon, one of the largest telecom operators in Russia, on the acquisition of NetByNet, a fixed broadband internet, digital TV and IP telephony operator; on the acquisition of the Synterra group of companies; and on the joint venture arrangements in relation to the Euroset group of companies

Education and qualifications

Lev has a B.A. in history and economics (summa cum laude) from, and holds a Juris Doctor (magna cum laude) from, New York University.

He speaks English and Russian.
