Overview

Taiki is a partner in our capital markets group. With over 10 years’ experience in the Asia Pacific region, Taiki has extensive experience advising in a broad range of capital markets transactions, with a focus on convertible and exchangeable bonds, corporate hybrids, medium term note programme establishments and drawdowns, private and pre-initial public offering fund raisings and liability management transactions. He has also extensive experience advising on hybrid financing structures combining elements of loans, bonds and equities.

Work highlights

Taiki has advised on many of the region’s most innovative capital markets deals in recent years, including:

  • C.H.M.T. Peaceful Development Asia Property Limited issuance of senior and mezzanine bonds to finance the acquisition of The Center in Hong Kong, at the time the world’s most expensive commercial building valued at US$5.15bn.
  • Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) €1bn 0.55% covered bonds due 2023 issued pursuant to the €20bn SMBC covered bond programme, the first ever covered bond issued out Japan.
  • Link Real Estate Investment Trust HK$4bn 1.60% guaranteed green convertible bonds, the first green convertible bond issued out of the Asia Pacific region.
  • FWD Limited and FWD Group Limited issuances of convertible preference shares and cumulative and non-cumulative perpetual bonds.
  • Road King Infrastructure US$300m 7.95% senior guaranteed perpetual capital securities, the first ever fixed for life high yield issuance.
  • Guangzhou R&F Properties Co Limited consent solicitation and restructuring support proposals in respect of 10 series of offshore bonds totalling US$4.9bn in principal amount.
  • Meituan US$1.48bn zero coupon convertible bonds due 2027 and US$1.5bn zero coupon convertible bonds due 2028 and concurrent placing of existing shares and top-up subscription of shares.
  • Cathay Pacific issuance of HK$19.5bn preference shares with detachable warrants as part of its HK$39bn recapitalisation financing, as well as its follow-on issuance of HK$6.74bn guaranteed convertible bonds due 2026.

Professional experience

Before relocating to Hong Kong in 2015, Taiki was based in the firm’s Tokyo office for 4 years.

Education and qualifications

Taiki studied law at Worcester College, Oxford University.

Taiki is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales.
