Linklaters advised Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) andTrue Internet Data Center (True IDC) on their strategic partnership with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), the global infrastructure fund owned by BlackRock; and on the successful closing of a US$550m project financing to support its development and construction of a greenfield data centre in Rayong Province, Thailand.
The strategic partnership aims to accelerate Thailand’s digital infrastructure transformation to world class standards, support the rapid growth of AI and cloud computing, help to drive Thailand to become ASEAN’s leading digital economy hub and increase sustainable innovation across the region. True IDC, Thailand’s leading data centre and cloud service provider under CP Group, plans to leverage this collaboration to expand investment in data centres business across ASEAN.
The project financing will support the development and construction of a proposed hyperscaler data centre of up to 102.6MW capacity, designed to support high-intensity workloads and the needs of global technology companies investing in Thailand. This project also marks GIP’s first greenfield data centre development globally.
The Linklaters cross-jurisdictional, multidisciplinary team was led by energy & infrastructure partners Wilailuk Okanurak and Wanwisar Nakarat, TMT/IP partner Alaister Johnson and partner and Asia Head of Construction Mark Veitch, with support from managing associate Charlie Bown.
