Linklaters advises MEAG on the launch of a European Data Centre Fund

Linklaters has advised MEAG on the structuring and launch of the alternative investment fund MEAG Volante DC Investor SCSp. The fund invests (indirectly) in European data centres. Founding investors include Siemens Financial Services (SFS) and Munich Re. Other professional investors can also invest in the fund.

A sovereign wealth fund and Vantage Data Centers – one of the world’s leading developers and operators of data centres – are also participating in the fund’s initial investment. The initial portfolio will be expanded to include additional data centres. All data centres are powered entirely by renewable energy. The fund is a so-called Art. 8-product within the meaning of SFDR.

The fund has been launched in Luxembourg and Hauck & Aufhäuser Fund Services S.A. acts as its AIFM, while MEAG is the AIFM’s investment advisor in relation to the fund.

MEAG is the asset manager of Munich Re and offers internationally its extensive expertise to institutional investors and private clients outside the corporate group. MEAG currently manages assets of approximately EUR 363 billion, including approximately EUR 62 billion for investors outside the corporate group.

“We are delighted to support MEAG with the structuring and launch of the new fund. The digital infrastructure sector offers substantial growth opportunities. Data centres provide investors with access to a forward-looking and expanding market, offering solid return prospects, long-term stability, and portfolio diversification potential,”
