Overview
Richard Coar is an energy sector leader at Linklaters – he is a partner in the energy and infrastructure team and co-heads the firm's renewables sector. He advises on a wide range of development, financing, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory matters around the world. Richard has over 20 years of experience guiding sponsors, funders and government clients on their most challenging transactions, including multiple award-winning and first-of-their-kind transactions.
Experience
- Advised the sponsors on the £8.5bn project financing of the Dogger Bank A, B and C offshore wind farms in the UK – the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
- Advised the UK Government on the construction and development of the Sizewell nuclear power project in the UK.
- Advised the commercial lenders and ECAs on the financing of the 1.2GW Baltic Power offshore wind farm - the first offshore wind financing in Poland.
- Advised commercial lenders and ECAs on Project Mercury - the first offshore wind holdco financing in Taiwan.
- Advised the lenders on both the financing of the Northern Endurance Partnership CO2 transportation project and the Net Zero Teesside CCS power – the first CCUS projects in the UK.
- Advised the sponsors on the refinancing of 74 ground-mounted solar PV assets – part of the largest portfolio of solar PV plants in Europe.
- Advised the sponsors on their acquisition and financing of six offshore transmission (OFTO) projects in the UK, including the first three to reach financial close.
- Advised the sponsors on the development and financing of the upgrade of the Cartegena oil refinery in Colombia – the largest project financing at that time in Colombia.
- Advised INEOS on the construction of Europe’s most sustainable ethane cracker in the Port of Antwerp.
- Advised the UK Ministry of Defence in respect of the UK’s new aircraft carriers, offshore patrol vessels and new global combat ships.
- Advised the UK government on all regulatory matters and contractual documentation required for the £15bn Crossrail project.
