Matt specialises in international commercial arbitration and investment arbitration, with experience in disputes across the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Russia and Europe. He has particular experience in construction and energy sector disputes, as well as disputes arising from joint ventures.
Matt has acted in arbitrations under the rules of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre, and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), including appearing as counsel. He also advises on High Court litigation, including matters relating to arbitration proceedings.
As part of Linklaters’ global cross-practice ESG team, Matt advises on mitigating ESG disputes risk.
Matt has previously been seconded to a major retail bank and to a large insurer in the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to joining Linklaters, Matt worked at a law firm in New Zealand and appeared as sole and junior counsel before the New Zealand courts. He was also a judges clerk (judicial assistant) in the High Court of New Zealand.
Matt studied at Harvard Law School where he received a Master of Laws (LLM). He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Politics) from the University of Otago, New Zealand.
He is qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales.
