Maria is a financial regulation associate in Linklaters’ New York office. Her practice encompasses a wide range of matters involving U.S. securities laws and regulations, focusing on issues impacting investment advisers and private fund managers. She regularly advises global asset managers, broker-dealers and financial institutions on technical questions of legal interpretation, daily regulatory compliance, best practices and risk management measures.
Her daily practice involves advising on private fund regulatory structuring and documentation, registration requirements and exemptions under U.S. securities laws, advertising and marketing under the Advisers Act, regulatory filings, development and implementation of policies and procedures, and SEC examinations, among other areas. Maria also regularly advises clients on latest regulatory developments and trends, as well as on the application of existing regulatory frameworks to emerging areas, such as ESG and use of generative AI tools.
Maria has also advised in cross-border asset manager and broker dealer M&A transactions. Before joining the financial regulation group, Maria’s practice focused on capital markets transactions involving clients from Latin America. Maria is a bilingual English-Spanish speaker.
Maria holds a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from St. John’s University School of Law. Maria obtained a B.A. in Literature, Foreign Language and Legal Translation from the Universidad de la República in Uruguay.
