In its recent ruling in RFC Seraing, the Court of Justice of the European Union considered the enforceability of mandatory arbitration clauses in the sporting context.

The judgment addresses the compatibility of such clauses with EU law, in particular to ensure effective judicial review by courts within the EU, and may have implications for the wider governance of sport and dispute resolution mechanisms in the sector.
