Overview

Gerald is a Managing Associate in Linklaters’ global International Arbitration Group based in London.

He is a tri-qualified lawyer with more than 10 years of experience helping clients with their international disputes. Gerald is familiar with all forms of dispute resolution (including negotiation, arbitration and litigation), with particular specialism in international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitrations.

Gerald represents clients in their most complex and high-value cross-border disputes, particularly disputes relating to construction, energy, private equity and joint ventures. He has significant experience advising clients on capital-intensive projects and investments across the world, and in particular in Asia and the Middle East.

Gerald practised in Singapore for several years before relocating to London in 2021.

Experience

Acting for the employers in LCIA arbitration against the main contractor in a dispute arising out of a major hospitality project in the Mediterranean.
Acting for a consortium of oil and gas majors in a multi-billion-dollar SIAC arbitration against the EPC contractor relating to a petrochemical project in Asia.
Advising a national oil company on disputes arising out of a multi-billion-dollar project to upgrade and expand a strategically important refinery in the Middle East.
Acting for an oil and gas major in a multi-billion-dollar SIAC arbitration (and managing related Singapore court proceedings) relating to a complex fraud claim arising out of an offshore project in the North Sea.
Acting for a private equity fund in DIAC arbitration (and managing related UAE court proceedings) relating to a dispute over a healthcare project in the Middle East.
Advising the operator (a joint venture between two Chinese energy companies) of an upstream oil and gas project in a dispute with the host government over the recovery of several hundred million USD of taxes.
Acting for a consortium of international contractors in an ICC arbitration against a subcontractor relating to a rail infrastructure project in Saudi Arabia.
Acting for a client in a post-M&A dispute relating to a trading business in Indonesia.

Beyond the Office

Gerald is active in several professional organisations. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He also sits on the Council of the Young SIAC, and he is a member of Young ICCA.

Education, Qualifications and Languages

Gerald graduated with an LL.B. (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore. He also holds an LL.M. from Boston University.

Gerald is a Solicitor in England and Wales, an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore and an Attorney and Counselor at Law of the State of New York.

In addition to his native English language, Gerald is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
