Overview
Michael’s practice focuses on financial crime, including U.S. economic and trade sanctions and the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, as well as contentious regulatory work for financial institutions and other regulated entities. He frequently helps clients assess multi jurisdictional risk and respond to fast moving regulatory and geopolitical developments across Asia.
Based in Asia, Michael leads the U.S. sanctions practice in the region. He works on some of the most complex financial crime and geopolitical issues affecting clients across Asia, including India, and has led numerous internal and external investigations. His experience includes sensitive matters involving regulators and authorities across the globe, including the U.S. DOJ and SEC, as well as the UK SFO, Hong Kong SFC and ICAC, Korea FSS, and India SEBI.
Michael brings deep in house insight from his time in a high profile global investigations function at a major international financial institution in London. Earlier in his career, he practised at a leading Washington, D.C. firm working on criminal and civil investigations.

- Providing advice to numerous corporates and financial institutions in connection with evolving U.S. sanctions and export controls relating to China, Iran, and Russia, including the U.S. Outbound Investment Rules.
- Investigating multiple instances of whistleblower-raised allegations of misconduct and ethical issues within global corporates and funds, financial institutions, and professional services firms.
- Representing global professional services firm in connection with allegations of ethical misconduct in Greater China, alongside parallel regulatory investigation in the US.
- Representing leading U.S. investment bank in connection with allegations of market misconduct in Asia, including Singapore, Hong Kong, India, and Korea.
- Representing global professional services firm in relation to allegations of ethical misconduct in Southeast Asia.
