Richard studied law at the University of Bochum. From 2021 to 2023, he worked as Legal Support for Linklaters in Düsseldorf. He completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court Hamm with stages at Linklaters in Düsseldorf and Tokyo as well as a station at the German Chamber of Commerce Abroad (AHK) in Shanghai. Richard holds a doctorate in law from the Ruhr-University Bochum.
