Overview
Carmina Pina is a Managing Associate in the Lisbon Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations department, with wide-ranging commercial litigation and arbitration experience and a particular focus on banking litigation and corporate disputes, her expertise furthermore including contentious regulatory advice and competition litigation.
Carmina advises banks, financial services institutions and corporate clients on all aspects of contentious and pre-contentious advisory work, and she has vast experience in regulatory and internal investigations.
Professional experince
Carmina started her legal career in 2012 with the Lisbon office of Linklaters, when she joined as Junior Associate. She got promoted to Associate in 2014, and to Managing Associate in 2021 in the Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations Department.
She has participated as speaker in a panel on Artificial Intelligence in International Arbitration at the Portuguese Arbitration Association annual conference, and also at the European Commission’s Financial Services Users Group annual meeting, to discuss the developments of the non-performing loans market in Portugal.
Carmina regularly works on the firm’s pro bono and community investment initiatives, including the preparation of the amicus curiae brief filed in support of a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case of Bobby Moore, who had been on death row for nearly 40 years, following which the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Bobby Moore’s death sentence on account of mental ability eligibility criteria, in what has been considered a landmark case.
Her drive and focus is also reflected in the fact that she manages to combine a career in law with high level competition sports, having achieved two national kickboxing titles while at Linklaters.
Education and qualifications
Carmina holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon (2011).
She then obtained a Master Degree in Law and Business, from the School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University, with a thesis on the Portuguese non-performing loans market (2014).
She completed her education with a Post-Graduate Advanced Course in Commercial Litigation at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2017) and is currently concluding an Extension Course on Arbitration at the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon.
Carmina is a Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2014 and is also a member of the Portuguese Arbitration Association (APA).
She speaks Portuguese and English.
