Overview

Rodrigo is an Associate in the Capital Markets group in the Lisbon office’s Finance and Energy & Infrastructure Department. His recent practice focuses on transactional work on debt and equity capital markets transactions and acquisition financing. This includes legal assistance in recent banking and capital markets deals such as private debt placements, listings and public tender offers. Additionally, Rodrigo has recently worked on debt restructurings and liability management exercises, as well as corporate restructurings.

His advisory work covers corporate governance legal assistance for large corporates, including listed companies, and also regulatory advice to credit and financial institutions, collective investment schemes and other regulated entities.

Rodrigo advises domestic and foreign corporate clients on national and cross-border issues, across different industry sectors, with particular focus on the financial, energy, insurance and real-estate sectors.

Professional experience

Rodrigo started his legal career in 2015 as Summer Trainee at the Linklaters Lisbon office, as well as the London office of the firm. He then joined Linklaters Lisbon in 2017 as Junior Associate, and got promoted to Associate in 2019, currently working in the Finance and Energy & Infrastructure Department.

Rodrigo is a Guest Lecturer in Property law at the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon.

Education and qualifications

Rodrigo holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon (2016). Rodrigo furthermore is Magister Juris by the St. Cross College of the University of Oxford, United Kingdom (2017)

During his academic studies Rodrigo obtained various academic awards, including merit-based scholarships and prizes. 

He is a Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2019. 

Rodrigo speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.

  • The 2nd volume of the Commentary to the Civil Code – Law of Obligations (Código Civil – Direito das Obrigações), published in 2021 by the Portuguese Catholic University Press, in collaboration with the Portuguese Supreme Court Justice Maria da Graça Trigo, commentary to Articles 493, 499, 500, 798, 799 and 800.
  • On the 3rd volume of the Commentary to the Civil Code – Property Law (Código Civil – Direito das Coisas), published in 2021 by the Portuguese Catholic University Press:

in collaboration with Portuguese Supreme Court Justice Maria da Graça Trigo, commentary to Article 1302;

in collaboration with Professor Henrique Sousa Antunes, commentary to Articles 1305, 1305-A, 1316, 1317 and 1439 to 1463;

in collaboration with Professor Ana Filipa Morais Antunes, commentary to Articles 1307 and 1430 to 1438. 

  • Rodrigo is currently working on his contribution to the 4th volume of such Commentary, covering articles related with sale and purchase agreements, including those governing the sale of defective goods and encumbered assets.
