Overview

Teresa advises on cross-jurisdictional contentious matters with a particular focus on international arbitration and disputes in the energy and construction sectors. She has experience acting in arbitrations under all the major institutional rules (including International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) rules), as well as on ad hoc arbitrations.

 

Teresa frequently advises on financial and trade sanctions, particularly as they apply to Iran.

 

She also advises on contentious insolvency proceedings and financial crime, with experience spanning investigations into fraud, asset tracing and anti-bribery and corruption.

 

Teresa has previously been seconded to BP’s Dispute Resolution team in London and spent two years on secondment to the firm’s Hong Kong office from 2011 to 2013.


Work highlights

Teresa has advised on many high-profile disputes. Those that can be disclosed include:

  • acting for a major international turnkey supplier of equipment in an ad hoc arbitration seated in London
  • managing a multijurisdictional team acting for a client based in Asia in an ICC arbitration arising under an affiliation agreement, including successfully obtaining interim relief that was critical to the continuation of the client’s business
  • advising a leading Egyptian energy company in an ICC arbitration in London relating to its acquisition of an interest in an oil field in Africa
  • acting for BP in the UNCITRAL arbitrations arising out of its disputes with its Russian partners in the TNK-BP joint venture
  • advising PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe), in respect of litigation arising from the insolvency of the Lehman group
  • advising an international engineering and project management client in respect of a significant fraud investigation involving global asset tracing and recovery efforts
  • advising the firm’s clients globally in respect of potential business operations in, or connected with, Iran

Professional experience

Teresa is a member of the ICC YAF, LCIA and ArbitralWomen.

 

She has written on the subject of financial and trade sanctions as they apply to Iran in respect of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Education and qualifications

Teresa studied Modern Languages and Literature (Spanish and German) at Churchill College, University of Cambridge.
