Linklaters has advised the Hurst Point Group and its majority shareholder The Carlyle Group on the acquisition by Shackleton Advisers Limited (Shackleton).
The transaction will create one of Britain’s largest independent financial planning firms, with combined assets under advice/management of £17.5bn, over 44,000 clients nationwide and 850+ employees in 38 offices in towns and cities across the country. The transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approval, includes both Shackleton´s financial planning and investment management businesses.
Hurst Point was established in 2020 to provide the full spectrum of wealth management services to the UK. It has completed more than 25 acquisitions of both advice and investment management firms.
Hurst Point’s existing majority shareholder, Carlyle, will become an investor in Shackleton alongside funds managed by Lee Equity Partners, LLC, which became Shackleton’s majority shareholder in November 2025.
A cross-practice team Linklaters team led by Private Equity and Capital Solutions Partner Andrew Lynch and Private Equity Partner John Tsui advised Hurst Point Group and The Carlyle Group, having both advised Carlyle on the original take-private of the business (then Harwood Wealth Management) in 2020.
The team included Tax Partner Jamie Coomber, Managing Associates Tom Scott and William Peck as well as Associates Jason Bath, Hamish Oliver and Vadim Akheev (all Private Equity).
