Linklaters has advised Nozomi Energy Co., Ltd. (Nozomi Energy), a renewables platform in Japan established by Actis, on its acquisition of a portfolio of operational solar power plants in Japan from a subsidiary of Banpu NEXT Co., Ltd., the smart energy solutions arm of Thailand’s Banpu PCL. The portfolio, with a combined capacity of approximately 80MW, is located across Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kansai and Kyushu.
Linklaters has worked on several landmark energy & infrastructure sector M&A transactions across Asia, which included previously advising Actis, a leading global investor in sustainable infrastructure, on the establishment of Nozomi Energy and its acquisition of Hergo Japan Energy Corporation (Hergo Japan Energy). This transaction marks a significant milestone in Nozomi Energy’s strategy to expand its renewable energy platform in Japan.
The Linklaters multidisciplinary team was led by corporate partner Tracy Whiriskey and energy & infrastructure partner Hirofumi Taba, with support from counsel Mamoru Ikeda, managing associates Kenji Shimada and De Hong Lee.
Tracy Whiriskey, corporate partner at Linklaters in Tokyo, commented:
“We are honoured to have supported Actis in launching the Nozomi Energy platform in 2023 and to continue advising on its continued growth. This latest acquisition demonstrates the platform’s strategic importance in Japan’s energy transition. We thank Actis and Nozomi Energy for their continued trust in us and look forward to supporting them on future strategic growth transactions for this platform.”
