Linklaters has announced the appointment of Toby Grimstone, partner in the firm’s London office, as its new global co-head of banking alongside existing global co-head Ben Crosse. Toby succeeds Rebecca Jarvis, who will be retiring at the end of April after 29 years with the firm.
Currently co-head of corporate and structured lending, Toby specialises in international banking deals, applying his wide-ranging knowledge to advise banks and borrowers in syndicated and secured bank financings, with a particular focus on corporate lending, event-driven, structured and limited recourse financings. He leads the firm’s relationship with a number of major banking clients.
Toby blends an extensive global breadth of practice with experience across a number of sectors. He is skilled at delivering solutions for clients that bridge challenging legal, cultural and practical differences and has led on, or been a key adviser in, many of the most significant banking deals in recent years.

The teams work together seamlessly to advise banks, credit funds and other financial institutions, companies, financial sponsors and governments on domestic and international financing transactions across every industry, commercial, financial and governmental sector.
The practice is ranked tier 1 in all the major legal directories globally and has seen tremendous growth in the past year, including the lateral hires of Angel Quek, Peter Hayes and Mei Lian in London and Francois Kopf, Mathieu Della Vittoria, Pierre-Arnoux Mayoly and Shirin Deyhim in Paris. The firm also elected five new partners and promoted seven lawyers to counsel across the global banking practice in 2026.
