Overview
Andy is a partner and Head of the Firm’s UK Real Estate practice. He has been at Linklaters over 25 years and has extensive experience in the acquisition, financing, development, letting and disposal of all types of commercial real estate both in the UK and internationally.
Andy is ranked in the Hall of Fame for Real Estate in the Legal 500 and also top ranked in Chambers. He has recently stepped down as trustee and chair of Barts Charity, a leading healthcare charity whose vision is to achieve life-changing improvements to health for the people of East London.
He is a member of the Land Law Committee of the City of London Law Society, a representative body for City lawyers.
Experience
Andy has led on many major real estate transactions. Highlights include advising:
- Arada, a UAE-based developer: advising on its acquisition of a 75% stake in Regal, one of London’s leading residential-led mixed-use developers.
- A major financial institution: advising on the £333m acquisition and ongoing development of its new City of London HQ, the most valuable City investment deal in recent years.
- Ramsbury as landlord/developer on the pre-let of 220,000sqft office space to accountancy firm BDO as its new London HQ.
- Ho Bee Land: advising on their £718m acquisition of The Scalpel landmark office building in the City of London.
- City Developments Limited (CDL): advising on the £395m purchase of the 23-acre mixed-use scheme and marina at St Katharine Docks from funds advised by Blackstone.
- Gamuda Berhad: advising the Malaysian property company on the entry into a joint venture with Castleforge and the acquisition by that joint venture of the 317,000 sq ft Winchester House for £257m.
- Obayashi Corporation: advising on the purchase of 60 Gracechurch Street in the City of London from KGAL.
- GIC and Greystar: advising on the purchase of Student Roost, the UK’s third largest purpose-built student accommodation provider.
- Lendlease: advising on its:
- £1.9bn Birmingham Smithfield City Centre development covering 17 hectares.
- JV with Starwood Capital to acquire and deliver the £3.5bn Silvertown Quays, London development.
- £2bn+ on-going redevelopment of Elephant and Castle London SE1 comprising over 300,000 square metres of new build, mixed use development.
