The Employment Rights Bill 2024 was introduced to Parliament on 10 October 2024 and received Royal Assent on 18 December 2025, becoming the Employment Rights Act 2025.
It introduces change in over 20 areas of employment law from unfair dismissal rights, to new protections for pregnant women and the repeal of trade union legislation.
Further proposed reforms are also set to be introduced via a draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, including extending pay gap reporting and equal pay rights.
The government has stated that they will work in close partnership with trade unions and business and will invite their views on how best to put the plans into practice. Consultation on most of the reforms will continue into 2026 with the majority of reforms taking effect no earlier than April 2026.
