Overview
Hirofumi is an international infrastructure and project finance specialist. He has advised on many world-scale outbound Japanese energy and infrastructure transactions as well as on strategic inbound investments in new renewable technologies including opportunities arising from the energy transition and major infrastructure transactions in Japan.
Work Highlights
Hirofumi has led on, or been a key adviser, in many major projects. Those that can be disclosed include advising:
- an international wind developer on the expected Round 2 and 3 public auctions for offshore wind projects in Aomori, Yamagata, Chiba and Niigata Prefectures (ongoing).
- a Japanese utility on its global clean hydrogen ammonia programme (ongoing).
- a Japanese trading house on its investment in an e-fuel project in Europe (ongoing).
- Marubeni on the ¥100bn offshore wind project in Akita, the first commercial scale offshore wind project in Japan. This transaction was named “Innovation Deal of the Year” by PFI Awards 2020.
- an international financial sponsor on the establishment of its renewable energy platform (which includes solar and wind assets), and the acquisition of solar and wind projects in Japan.
- Ørsted A/S on establishing a joint venture company with Tokyo Electric Power for offshore wind in Choshi in Japan.
- Macquarie’s Green Investment Group on the formation of a joint venture with a global energy leader, Iberdrola, on the co-development of a 3.3GW portfolio of six offshore wind projects in Japan.
- the international sponsors and lenders on the Sodegaura, Mine, Sano, Oita, Nagi, and Nanazoshi solar PV project financings in Japan.
