Markus specialises in M&A transactions, joint ventures, project developments and regulatory advice in the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy as well as infrastructure projects relating to data centres and power grids.

Experience

Banco Santander: advising on the financing of the acquisition of a 49% stake by Kansai Electric Power Co. in the offshore wind farm Windanker from Iberdrola S.A.
PGGM Infrastructure Fund: advising PGGM Infrastructure Fund on the sale of its 27.4% stake in the offshore wind farm Baltic 2 to Vårgrønn.
Verbund Green Power Deutschland: advising Verbund on the acquisition of project rights for several wind energy sites (140 MW) in the Hochsauerland district.
Sunotec: advising Sunotec, a leading European system integrator and specialist in the construction of large scale photovoltaic plants and battery storage systems, on a partnership-structured equity investment by funds managed by Blackstone Tactical Opportunities.
Citadel Securities: advising on the acquisition of energy trading company FlexPower.
Anew Climate: advising on the acquisition of certain assets and contracts of Landwärme, a Munich-based company specialising in the trading of biomethane and greenhouse gas quotas.
International producer of crude oil and natural gas: advising on the acquisition of oil and gas fields in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Leading operator of data centers: regulatory advice on grid connection issues regarding the expansion of a data center campus, which is to comprise 500 MW in the final expansion.
Sumitomo Electric Industries: advising on an EPC contract with German grid operator Amprion for the DC35 project, a 525 kV HVDC cable project spanning 530 km from the German North Sea to the Rhine-Main area.
Investment company: advising on the project development of a power interconnector between two countries by sea.

Education, Qualifications and Languages

Markus studied law in Munich and Coimbra, Portugal.

Markus has been working as an Associate at Linklaters since 2024. He completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Berlin with placements including the German Embassy in Washington, D.C., USA.

From August 2020 to December 2023 he worked as a Legal Assistant at Linklaters. Previously, he worked as a research assistant at Humboldt University of Berlin, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, as well as at another leading international law firm in the corporate law/M&A sector.

He speaks German, English, Portuguese and Spanish.
