Board Diversity: The Asian Landscape

Overall, fewer measures have been taken to improve board diversity across Asia than in European countries. The focus is still primarily on improving gender balance. There are signs of progress across the region, particularly in Singapore where voluntary targets were introduced in 2019. Japan and China continue to face challenges in adding women directors to boards although for Japan this has dropped noticeably; boards made up of all male directors dropped from 77% to 33%, in 2019.
