UK - Corporate governance obligations for large privately-held UK companies

In June 2018, the UK Government published new reporting rules requiring large privately-held UK companies to show that they operate responsibly. The rules apply from 2019, with first reports due 2020. A working group, set up by the Government, has now published complementary best practice recommendations. These Wates Principles aim to help companies to report by providing a governance framework which is suitable for large non-listed companies. This briefing sets out key features of the new rules and recommendations and questions for companies to begin to consider.
