Alumni profile - Tom MacAulay

Like many graduates in 2003, Tom MacAulay had plenty of options open to him when he graduated from Cambridge University with his degree in modern languages. "The oddity was that lots of people from all sorts of backgrounds were doing the law conversion course," he reflects. "Writing and translating were always important to me but without knowing that much about the legal profession, I thought (rightly, as it turned out) that the law might prove to be a stimulating career. At least a lot of it would involve the written word!"

Tom duly began professional life with Slaughter and May in 2006 as a corporate associate. "I had a good feeling about SandM from the interview, which, thankfully, included none of those psychometric tests that really don't hold much appeal for me"...
