Experience

Simon Firth specialises in the structuring and documentation of derivatives transactions, with a particular emphasis on credit derivatives and regulatory capital-driven structures. He is frequently the first port of call where judgment calls are required about the interpretation of ISDA documentation or the impact of market developments. His technical knowledge is particularly highly valued and he is adept at providing clear and definitive  advice at short notice on legal issues of the highest complexity. He is also frequently involved in designing and documenting derivatives transactions with a variety of novel features. He is currently leading the team advising the administrators of Lehman Brothers about its derivatives, repo and stock lending positions.

In addition to his legal practice, he writes and speaks frequently about legal issues in the financial markets. He is a member of the Financial Markets Law Committee and the author of Derivatives: Law and Practice (Sweet and Maxwell), the leading textbook on English derivatives law.
