Nearly 70% of the population of England and Wales hold religious beliefs. However, many employers continue to view religion as a contentious and divisive issue and shy away from embracing religious diversity in the workplace. As a result, employees often feel the need to “water down” their religious identities or even leave their religious beliefs at home.

The European Parliament has adopted the new EU Directive on improving gender balance on boards of listed companies. Amongst other measures, it provides that, by 2026, listed companies must have at least 40% of non-executive director positions held by members of the underrepresented sex (or 33% among all directors).
