Overview

Andreas has specialist experience in banking supervisory, investment funds, securities trading and insurance supervisory law. He advises financial services firms on their major M&A transactions and assists them with investigations and enforcement by regulators, as well as on bank resolution and other crisis management situations.

Andreas spent three months on secondment to the firm’s London office in 2016, working on a potential merger between the German and UK stock exchanges and developing relationships with German banking clients based in London.

Work highlights

Andreas has advised on a wide range of business-critical matters. These include advising:

  • a number of German and international businesses on major investigations, including alleged tax fraud and Foreign Exchange (FX) manipulation investigations
  • RHJ International (RHJI)/Kleinwort Benson Group on the purchase of BHF-Bank from Deutsche Bank as well as subsequently on the integration of BHF into the RHJI Group and the reorganisation of the RHJI Group, a highly complex deal that overcame many regulatory challenges
  • HSH Finanzfonds and the German states of Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein on the restructuring of HSH Nordbank
  • UniCredit and Pioneer Investment on the sale of the asset management business of Pioneer
  • Deutsche Börse on the aborted mergers with NYSE Euronext and the London Stock Exchange and on the acquisition of all shares in Eurex Group
  • Bank Julius Bär Europe on the takeover of the retail client business from Bank of America Merrill Lynch and its subsequent integration

 

Professional experience

Andreas advised the German Federal Agency for Financial Market Stabilisation (FMSA) on all aspects of the Bank Restructuring Act (Restrukturierungsgesetz).

Andreas lectures on German public law at the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht, Wiesbaden.

Education and qualifications

Andreas studied law at the University of Saarland and Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, and holds a doctorate from the same university, including as a visiting research fellow at the Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Massachusetts.
