Overview 

Johnny is a senior associate in Linklaters’ Equity & Debt Markets Group in the Capital Markets department in London, with experience advising clients (issuer and underwriter side) on a wide range of capital markets and related transactions, including standalone bonds for corporates, universities and charitable trusts, hybrid capital, regulatory capital, MTN programmes, liability management and restructuring exercises. Johnny has spent time on secondment at Barclays investment bank, the Linklaters Dubai office and most recently at J.P. Morgan in the hybrid capital structuring team. 

In addition to fee earning work, Johnny participates in the firm’s Pathfinder programme for students considering applying for a vacation scheme and/or training contract and is a mentor on the ‘Making Links Scholarship’ programme which is designed to help socially mobile university students succeed in their early careers. 

Work Highlights 

  • Oxford University on its debut eurobond issue which was the longest dated eurobond ever issued by a UK issuer with a 100 year maturity. Oxford raised £750m which meant that it was also the biggest Eurobond ever issued by a UK university
  • Metro Bank on its recapitalisation, involving a £325m debt and equity capital raise and £600m debt refinancing
  • The Dealer Managers and Offeror on the parallel capital reduction and tender offer of Aviva’s and General Accident’s outstanding cumulative irredeemable preference shares
  • Rothesay Life and Chesnara on their respective RT1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 capital (as applicable) issuances and the underwriters on Aviva’s RT1 and Tier 2 capital issuances
  • Bank Tier 1 and Tier 2 capital (underwriter and issuer side) public issuances, private capital placements and intra-group downstream arrangements
  • Hybrid capital issuances for various issuers (issuer and underwriter side) including Adecco, Castellum, SSE, Centrica and Vattenfall
