Overview
Luuk is a Managing Associate in the Amsterdam Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations team.
He specialises in international dispute resolution, with a particular focus on commercial and investment arbitration. Luuk is also regularly involved in arbitration-related disputes before the courts in the Netherlands, including high-profile setting aside and enforcement proceedings.
Before joining Linklaters in 2019, Luuk worked at a renowned arbitration boutique in Paris. In 2024/2025, Luuk was seconded to the market-leading disputes team of Allens in Sydney (Australia).
Work experience:
Luuk’s experience includes acting for and advising:
- A Turkish construction group in ICSID arbitration proceedings against a Middle Eastern State relating to investments in the host state’s oil and gas sector.
- European investors in their UNCITRAL investment dispute arising from the Czech Republic’s termination of licenses to operate video lottery terminals.
- A European energy company in setting aside proceedings initiated by the Republic of India in relation to a multibillion investment dispute regarding the imposition of retroactive tax measures by the state.
- A Ukrainian investor in setting aside and enforcement proceedings against the Russian Federation and its instrumentalities relating to an investment award that awarded the investor compensation for war damage resulting from expropriation in the Crimea region.
- A pharmaceutical company in setting aside proceedings against the Republic of Ecuador regarding arbitral awards rendered in investment arbitration proceedings.
- The Dutch NGO Free Press Unlimited in its worldwide efforts to promote press freedom. Work includes pro bono legal assistance, corporate housekeeping, ad hoc advice on issues of international law and legal assistance in selected cases before foreign courts, international tribunals and governmental bodies.
- An Australian mining company in proceedings before the Supreme Court of New South Wales (Australia) regarding a post-acquisition dispute in the energy sector.
