Overview

Rebecca is the Global Co-Head of Banking at Linklaters and a partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency team, comprising specialists throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia and handling the world's most challenging and significant domestic and cross-border assignments.

Rebecca advises creditors, (including banks and other financial investors and steering committees) insolvency office holders, and corporate debtors and their directors in all aspects of non-contentious restructuring and insolvency work. With a remarkable breadth of practice and extensive experience, Rebecca has acted on a wide range of workouts, business recoveries, stressed financings and administrations and liquidations.

Rebecca has also advised on a series of real estate and corporate restructurings in many jurisdictions, including, currently, on the restructuring of Abengoa in Spain, the largest ever European restructuring involving three separate processes, including a Spanish judicial confirmation, an English company voluntary arrangement (CVA) and U.S. Chapter 11 proceedings.

Abengoa, the Spanish renewables group with 9,000 creditors on a restructuring the effect of which was to reduce the group’s pre-structuring corporate indebtedness from €8.9bn to €2.6bn. It is to date the largest restructuring for a Spanish corporate
the lenders on the restructuring and, subsequently, the administrators on the administration of Battersea Power Station, which involved the ground breaking decision to put Jersey-registered companies into liquidation in the UK
the international lenders on the US$360m debt restructuring of Lonmin, the South African mining company
the Special Liquidators of IBRC proving general English insolvency advice and advising in connection with the sale of the NI and UK loan portfolio predominantly consisting of commercial real estate back loans
the senior creditor banks on the initial €2.2bn restructuring of the European Directories Group, which involved obtaining a Court of Appeal decision reaffirming market interpretation of a standard inter-creditor agreement. Reprising a very similar role on the second restructuring of the Group
Kodak Group, in relation to the Group wide restructuring necessitated by the Chapter 11 filing, providing advice on non US subsidiaries and pensions issues
the administrators of Petroplus, formerly the largest refiner and wholesaler of petroleum products in Europe
the administrators of Waterford Wedgwood, a cross-border insolvency that involved selling assets in Canada, the U.S., Japan, Australia and the UK

Beyond the office

Rebecca is a trustee of a charitable organisation, operating a local adventure playground in South London, Slade Garden Community Play Association.

Rebecca is a regular contributor to other local charitable institutions in the South London area helping organise a yearly local fund raising summer festival.

Rebecca is also a regular contributor to industry publications and questionnaires and has chaired restructuring related conferences and provided input to and present at several others.

Rebecca is co-author of Recognition and Enforcement of Cross-Border Insolvency: a guide to international practice, published by Wiley, 1996.

Rebecca studied law at Nottingham University.
