Phil specialises in real estate finance, with a particular focus on development and highly-levered, structured transactions.
Phil advises lenders (including banks and funds) and borrowers on all types of UK and cross-border real estate finance transactions, and has acted on highly complex, structured portfolio financings and restructurings. Phil spent a year on secondment at M&G Investments in 2016 sitting with the Real Estate Finance team.
Work Highlights
Phil has been the lead advisor for his clients on a number of major transactions, including:
- Cale Street Partners: advising funds advised by Cale Street Partners as lenders in respect of the financing of the £430m acquisition of the Fenwick Department Store on Bond Street, London.
- AustralianSuper/Argent: advising the sponsors on the £1bn refinancing of the Kings Cross/Coal Drops Yard site.
- Allianz Real Estate: advising funds on the £500m financing of the acquisition and mixed-use development of 105 Victoria Street, London (the site of the former House of Fraser department store).
- A sovereign fund: advising the junior lender in respect of a €385m mezzanine financing for the acquisition of a large portfolio of Spanish residential properties.
- Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Employees Provident Fund (Malaysia): advising the sponsors on the £1.1bn development financing of the Battersea Power Station.
- M&G: advising the lenders in relation to a £300m (senior and mezzanine) investment and acquisition facility secured on a portfolio of properties in Mayfair.
- Steinhoff: advising the company in relation to the distressed restructuring of its propco group financing.
