Linklaters advises Bain Capital on joint venture with SMBC to establish €1.5 billion European loan platform
Linklaters has advised Bain Capital on its joint venture with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) to establish a new European loan platform providing up to €1.5 billion in senior secured credit to sponsor-backed corporate borrowers across Europe and the UK.
The platform is structured as a co-governed credit vehicle which will co-originate leveraged finance loans on an ongoing basis, combining SMBC’s pan-European leveraged finance origination and structuring capabilities with Bain Capital’s underwriting and asset management expertise. The platform has been developed to support sponsor-led syndicated loan transactions at scale and across market cycles.
Lucy Sidey comments:
“This joint venture is a standout example of the innovation we are seeing in the private credit market in Europe. We are delighted to have supported Bain Capital to help shape and deliver this market-leading lending platform.”
Strategic partnerships of this nature are a key focus of the Linklaters Global Private Credit Platform, as we seek to support our private credit clients across their deployment strategies.
The Linklaters team was led by Structured Finance partner Lucy Sidey and managing associate John McCallion. They were supported by Corporate and Structured Lending partner Edward Chan and managing associate Elli Karaindrou, and structured finance associate Mark McCallion.
